Unusual case of skull base adenoid cystic carcinoma presenting as skull base osteomyelitis: case report

Abstract Background Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare malignancy. Tumours of palatal region with minor salivary gland origin do not generally present at an early stage as the tumour submucosal symptoms prevalent only when there evidence perineural spread tumour. We report case adenoid palate presentation left ear discharge and diplopia on lateral gaze. discuss emphasis imaging evaluation mimicking infective etiology adjacent skull base osteomyelitis initial presentation. However, follow-up further patient was diagnosed hard side. Case A 25-year-old male has presented to Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Hospital in August 2019 complaints gaze since 1 week. The clinical findings suggestive treated for same IV antibiotics. Repeat magnetic resonance then done which revealed definitive reduction severity inflammation response therapy. Patient discharged followed up. Three months later, came mass nasal cavity. referred contrast enhanced computed tomography neck strongly neoplastic etiology. operated histopathological examination biopsy carcinoma. Conclusions In our rectus palsy, involvement meckel’s cave, trigeminal nerve cavernous sinus are strong indicators locoregional Hence, it important radiologist clinician suspect evaluate primary lesion head such radiological been demonstrated.
